Elastin

Elastin is a protein found in connective tissues that provides elasticity and resilience to structures like skin, blood vessels, and ligaments. It is often included in supplements aimed at improving skin health, joint function, and overall tissue repair.

Elastin works alongside collagen to maintain the structural integrity of tissues. As we age, elastin production decreases, leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, and reduced joint flexibility. Supplementing with elastin may help support tissue repair and maintain youthful skin.

While elastin supplements are generally safe, they are most effective when combined with collagen and other nutrients that support connective tissue health.

Synonyms: Connective Tissue Protein, Skin Elasticity Protein

Benefits:

  • Improves skin elasticity and hydration
  • Supports joint and ligament health
  • Enhances tissue repair and recovery
  • May reduce signs of aging (e.g., wrinkles)
  • Promotes vascular health

Sources:

  • Elastin supplements (capsules or powders)
  • Bone broth and animal connective tissues

Notes: Elastin is often paired with collagen in beauty and joint health supplements.
